Summer heat puts extra load on almost every system in a car. A few checks before the hottest weeks help you avoid breakdowns and an uncomfortable cabin.
Coolant
Check the coolant level in the reservoir when the engine is cold, and look for leaks under the car. Never open the radiator cap on a hot engine.
AC
If cooling feels weak, get the AC checked early, before it is under heavy load. A clogged cabin filter is a common and cheap fix.
Battery
Heat speeds up battery wear. Ask for a battery test during your service, and keep the terminals clean.
Tyres
Hot roads increase tyre temperature and pressure. Check pressure when the tyres are cold and look for cracks in older tyres.
Wipers and washer fluid
Dust builds up quickly in dry weather. Keep the washer reservoir full and replace hardened wiper blades.
Paint and interior
Park in the shade when possible and use a sunshade on the windscreen. Wash off bird droppings quickly, as they can damage paint in strong sun.
Do not leave valuables or devices inside
Cabin temperatures rise very fast in a parked car. Phones, power banks and spray cans should not be left on the dashboard.
